Teresa Leonard

I have been on the library staff at The News & Observer since 1987 and director since 1993.
In addition to providing research and maintaining the archive and intranet, I also maintain a local history blog, publishing content from the blog in a weekly column, maintain our moms’ website, and provide content for a published daily feature of online conversation.
I have served NC/SLA in the past as president, president elect, education chair, and secretary. I was also a director from 1997 to 2002 and the chapter webmaster from 2003 to 2007. As education chair, I coordinated two day-long professional development seminars.
I have been active in the SLA News Division, serving as chair, chair-elect and professional development chair. As chair-elect, I was responsible for all division programming at the national conference. I also ran two full-day CE workshops at the national conference.

At the N&O, I was responsible for newsroom staff development for four years, creating ongoing workshops and programming outside speakers from the community and throughout the industry. I also worked with the development of the North Carolina Open Government Coalition and maintained their website for its first year. I am currently working with the NC Scholastic Media Association at the UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication to conduct its yearly high school journalism workshop.
