Primary Function of Organizational Unit The NCSU Libraries serves as the gateway to recorded knowledge and information for the NC State community and its partners, offering a competitive advantage in attracting and retaining the best faculty and students to the university. Essential Job Duties As part of the User Experience department and in close coordination with library administration, the Visitor Experience Librarian will develop and manage the Libraries’ program for hosting external visitors, while recognizing that the Libraries’ primary mission is to serve the NC State community.

The Visitor Experience Librarian:
• Leads and coordinates the Libraries’ external visitor experience program, including both regularly scheduled tours and special visits tailored for specific individuals and groups
• Provides day-to-day management, support, and assessment of the program
• Serves on a team to develop tours, scripts, media, and web content
• Updates and maintains related content in print and media formats
• Registers visitors and manages visitor statistics and reports
• Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteer docents who serve as tour guides
• Liaises with library staff from External Relations, Program Planning and Outreach, and Development
• Participates in library planning, serves on library-wide committees, task forces, and teams
• Reports jointly to the Head, User Experience and Associate Director of Personnel Services for Recruiting and Visitor Relations
• NCSU librarians are expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field.

Minimum Education/Experience ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent advanced degree in a related field
Departmental Required Skills • Demonstrated understanding of the mission and role of an academic research library
• Ability to cultivate and maintain effective relations with visitors
• Knowledge of current and emerging technologies for research libraries
• Excellent interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work effectively as a team member and to promote teamwork among colleagues; ability to work independently with initiative
• Capacity to thrive in an exciting, ambiguous, future-oriented environment and to respond with agility to changing needs and priorities
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education • Experience with visitor or guest relations in a library, museum, or academic setting
• Experience managing volunteers
• Experience creating informational or promotional materials using graphics applications

Required License or Certification • Valid driver license
