Essential Job Duties

Reporting to the Director of the African American Cultural Center, the AACC Librarian provides leadership, service, and support for the NC State AACC Library (also known as Reading Room).

The AACC Librarian works with Director of the AACC to: Establish and implement annual library goals, providing services to students, staff, faculty, and community users; Supervise and coordinates the daily operations as well as assists with the development of library personnel; Participate in library planning and policy development, and serves as liaison with NCSU Libraries and other related committees representing the library as needed; Remains current with new technologies and innovations in library services through library literature, involvement in library organizations, and networking with other librarians.; Assists with minor programming related to library issue including the African American Read-In, Book Club, and the Red, White and Black Tour.
Minimum Experience/Education

Currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Library Science with at least minimum program requirements completed;

At least one year of library science experience or general reference and public information work.
Departmental Required Skills

Ability to function as a self-directed leader in a small, growing, department of a larger office. Requires the ability to determine departmental needs and submit a process to fulfill those needs in a timely manner;

Proficiency with computers and software. Proficiency providing reference services using print and electronic sources. Basic cataloging ability and experience in collection development; interest in digital collections acquisition and emerging technologies.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills with the ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both as a team member and independently;

Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills with sensitivities to providing excellent customer services for a diverse environment and student body.

Ability to plan, direct, and supervise the work of library work-study student personnel
